In 2006, ‘Pierre de Ronsard’ was selected as ‘World’s Favourite Rose’, the highest title a rose can be granted, and inducted into the Rose Hall of Fame.

The ‘Pierre de Ronsard’ also know as the Rosa ‘Eden’, Melviolin or Eden Rose 85 is a beautiful light pink and white climbing rose. Named after ‘Pierre de Ronsard’, after the French Renaissance poet referenced his famous ode that begins: Mignonne, allons voir si la rose .
The ‘Pierre de Ronsard’ blooms are a beautiful carmine-pink on the inside and cream or ivory on the outside. The let off a moderate fragrance and can reach on average, a diameter of 3″ (10 cm) with up to 60 petals on a flower.
Due to their weight, they are prone to bow their heads so do need to be supported. The rose grows upright and bushy, reaching 100 to 365 cm (39″ to 12′) height and about 1.8 metres (5.9 ft) width.
This particular specimen (main image) was planted on a south-facing wall. Although close to the property the area was backfilled with good topsoil to a min depth of 60cms. Supported on stainless steel wires and cane this specimen reached maturity in 3 years. Deadhead regularly and it will give you pleasure right through to September.
