Preparing for Autumn

The hot dry summer is spilling over into Autumn, so we can expect leaves to be falling earlier, and plants preparing for winter, earlier than usual.

Meadow Cutting

Although a little drier than one would want, now is the time to tidy evergreens. If you have wild meadow/grass areas on your property, then a cut now is recommended. Leave the cuttings on the ground for a week or so to let wild seeds disperse, then collect up debris. Not essential to lift the cuttings but doing so helps the wildflowers etc in the long term. They prefer poor soils generally, so any mulch acts as a feed to enrich the ground.

Autumn Garden Jobs

Planting

Autumn and winter are an ideal time to be planting trees or shrubs, especially bare rooted. Ensure the ground is prepared well before starting the planting process. It will pay dividends.

Clear leaves

If your garden has trees or larger deciduous shrubs, then leaf collecting will be a possible job on the list. In the less manicured areas, it is good to let the leaves lie under the tree, as this adds nutrient to help the tree next season. Nearer the house, around terraces and overhanging roofs can create problems.

Gutter Care

It’s time to check for leaves and moss in your gutters, especially if you have overhanging trees dropping autumn leaves.  Have a read of our top 5 tips post on how to clean your gutters.  If your gutters are hard to reach and you don’t want to tackle the ladder, we can inspect and clean gutters with our specialist equipment.

FREE Gutter Inspection

We are offering FREE gutter surveys to properties in the Riberac area over the next 8 weeks, commencing 21st October 2019. The survey will be carried out by one of our technicians, during which time you will have the opportunity to see video footage of the condition of your gutters.  You are under no obligation and Vizion Verte can advise you accordingly on the condition of your gutters.
